Andrew Westfall : Medical student winner of poster competition

Seventy physicians, PA, and nurse practitioners from across the PeeDee came together on Friday, June 2nd, for the 12th Annual Afternoon Symposium for Primary Care Physicians and Providers at the Carter Center for Health Sciences.   Dr. WIlliam Naso (Florence Neurosurgery and Spine at McLeod Health) and Dr. Howard Farrell (Florence ENT) guide the annual course content and moderated the sessions, as well as the medical student poster competition.

The competition winner, Andrew Westfall, and his colleagues, Brittany Kelly and Matthew O'Brien, partnered with Dr. Ramesh Bharadwaj to describe a patient with Tuberculosis who had a rare complication.

According to Dr. Farrell, the annual "symposium is a great opportunity for us to learn from each other.  It is a nice occasion for providers form different medical systems to interact."

Dr. Brinda Chokshi (Hope Health) of the Florence County Medical Society presented a cash award to Mr. Westfall.

The program is designed to update participants on current approaches and innovations in multiple medical and surgical subspecialties, and to emphasize the practical impact for primary care.

Brian Blaker (Cardiology), Viji Nehru (Hematology), Tripp Hines (Neurosurgery), Howard Farrell (ENT), Meenakshi Pande (Endocrinology), Amandiner Dhaliwal (Gastroenterology) gave lectures.
